Marriage.... just a piece of paper?

Wow, can't believe we are over halfway through August! Not long until all the shops have their Christmas selection out!

I have now been married for nearly 10 weeks. People keep saying to me 'How is married life?' and my response every time is that it is no different to non-married life! Apart from the new surname I am trying to get used to! A few people have said in reply 'Exactly, don't know why you bothered, it's only a piece of paper and costs a fortune.'

This annoys/upsets me a bit, because yes it is JUST a piece of paper, but to us it was important that we were married before we started a family. Is that old fashioned? The reality is, we had the best day of our lives, we are now bonded for life and why shouldn't I get married? Both mine and Alex's parents are still married, as are our grand-parents (both at 60 years and counting....) so we have had fabulous role models throughout our childhood years and beyond.

I guess the fact is, most people who have negative opinions on marriage have generally been those people who weren't invited to the big day.... so maybe some bitterness on their part? We would have loved to invited everyone we knew but sadly that just wasn't feasible!!

So there it is... I am married, I love being married and I intend to be married to my husband until death  us do part. Even if it is just a piece of paper... it is our piece of paper.

A sad day...

Today is a sad sad day for the UK. Mindless, brainless, thoughtless, thugs destroying the lives of many innocent people. Last night I was nearly in tears watching the footage, but today I feel more humbled by the riot clean up group that has been formed through Twitter. Altruism at its very very best.

My Dad said to me today 'they should shut twitter tonight' and I did post a similar opinion this morning but I don't think it will help. BBM seems to have been the main culprit enabling all these people to communicate. There are people being named and shamed all over twitter aswell, so if this helps the police make some convictions then so be it.

Working in the emergency services makes it a lot more real. Last night I was worried sick about colleagues in the thick of it, I know for a fact that ambulances were pelted with stones, with rocks and some ambulance stations were targets for being trashed. Ambulance stations. Seriously?? What has happened to humanity? When these gangs meet up, and people get stabbed, and lives get saved...who is responsible for that preservation of life?

Fortunately for me, I am not on nights until next week. Personally I am so pleased about that ,but at the same time my thoughts are with those emergency services who are on the front line through all of this and I pray they all get home safely to their loved ones at the end of all this.....

Back to school!

Hi everyone!

Well here I am lying in a hotel bed on my own! Basically I'm on a work course until Friday, and they put us up locally because it's an intense week and makes life a bit easier. I don't think anyones 'other halves' are that excited at the prospect of us all being away but my husband is lucky... Some husbands are home alone with young children during the school holidays! The only real change to Mr H's life is that he now has to cook his own dinners!

Everyone seems nice, luckily I know a few people here and I've stocked up on essentials like biscuits and popcorn!! A bit gutted my room has no fridge & the wifi is £5 for 2 hours.. To me that's a rip off they probably only pay sky/by £10 a month!! Thank goodness I have 3G here.

Trying to read up on homework due as preparation for tomorrows classes but we all went to the pub...I call it team bonding and it's essential!

I have tried to be practical and bought my current cross stitch project with me but I have no idea if I'll have time to do any!! I think studying will take priority. My mum will be proud!

We're staying near Earls Court. Out of my window I can see the arena (is that what it's described as?) and some really cute Victorian houses, although this near to Kensington I dread to think what they're worth!!!

Anyway, off to revise, wish me luck!

Welcome.....

Hi everyone! Well I have been saying I am going to blog for ages now. I really wish I had blogged the run up to my recent wedding, so I would have had something to look back on one day. I got married on 11th June 2011, and cheesily enough it was the best day of my life. Such a cliche but oh so true. I am now majorly jealous of other upcoming brides because I want to do it again. With the same groom obviously :)

I really want to share my DIY wedding ideas with people, everything was hand made and we had some really quirky, unusual ideas but I also don't want to bore people with the details so I may add little bits here and then and if I can inspire just one bride to get crafty then my work here is done!

This blog at the moment definitely needs decorating and jazzing up, I shall be asking my friend Jillyloves for ideas and help where blogging is concerned!

Just coming to the end of a 12 hour night shift so had better get going but will come back soon to hopefully make this page a bit more girly and pretty!
